SAFARI HIGHLIGHTS: Mikumi, Udzungwa Mountains, Ruaha and Selous

Day1: Dar es Salaam

Arrive in Dar es Salaam where you will be greeted by our driver and transferred to Serena Hotel for a relaxing evening as you get ready for your safari adventure tomorrow. Your guide will be at the hotel to greet you and to provide a full pre-safari briefing.

Dinner and overnight at Serena Hotel – an oasis of calm with exceptional first-class service and amenities close to the Indian Ocean.

Day 2: Selous Game Reserve

Depart by road for Selous Game Reserve, arriving in time for a relaxing picnic lunch at Rufiji River Camp and an afternoon of leisure. Enjoy an evening game drive in the Selous Game Reserve.

Selous Game Reserve is the largest protected wildlife sanctuary in Africa. The lifeblood of the Selous is the Rufiji River and sailing or rafting down the river is an exciting way to see game. You will find an amazing concentration of wildlife including elephant, lion, buffalo, crocodile, hippo, and wild dog.

Day 3: Selous Game Reserve

Enjoy full day game viewing in the reserve. Participate in some classic-style game drives exploring the bush in open 4 x 4 vehicles.

Day 4: Selous Game Reserve

Today, accompanied by an experienced ranger, we take a walking safari on the meandering pathways of the reserve. In the evening, we take a boat safari on the mighty Rufiji River. This is a superb way of sporting game especially in the dry season between June and October.

Day 5: Mikumi National Park

Transfer from Rufiji River Camp for Mikumi National Park, to the north of the Selous Game Reserve. We will enjoy game viewing en route with a stop-over for lunch. Signature features of the park are the Mikumi flood plain and the mountain ranges that rise on two sides of the park. This is Shangri-la for elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, wildebeest, eland and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest.

Day 6: Ruaha National Park

Before sunset, we depart for Ruaha National Park with game drive en route. Along the way, we’ll find a serene place to savor a steaming hot cup of coffee or cocoa and bask in the scenic beauty that awaits us. We arrive at Ruaha River Lodge in time for a relaxing lunch, and then you are free to enjoy the park before we venture out for an evening game drive where you can expect the unexpected.

Ruaha National Park is an untainted haven for wildlife in central Tanzania. It is the biggest elephant sanctuary in the country. The Great Ruaha River, with its spectacular gorges, flows along the park’s eastern border and is host to hippo and crocodile.

Dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge - a lavish and comfortable retreat on the banks of the grand Ruaha River.

Day 7: Ruaha National Park

After breakfast, pack your picnic lunch and get ready for an action-filled day in Ruaha National Park.

Days 8 & 9: Mikumi National Park

Early breakfast and drive back to Mikumi National Park to spend 2 full days at the majestic Udzungwa Mountains. Udzungwa Mountains National Park covers an awesome terrain stretching 1900 square km and is one of the newest National Parks in Tanzania, home of the red colubus monkey, elephants, buffalos, leopards, sable antelope and different species of birds. There are a number of activities available to you, depending on your interests.  You can hike to the magnificient Sanje waterfalls or climb to the summit of the Luhombereo.

Day 10 Dar es Salaam

After breakfast, we drive back to Dar es Salaam. We have come to the end of our safari. Depending on your plans, our guides can work with you to make travel arrangements to other destinations. We will make sure to take care of you whether you are traveling onwards or catching a flight back home. 

Note: If you have a few extra days, consider extending your stay by adding a beach getaway to Zanzibar.
